Yameen makes the difference

Male’, MALDIVES – TC Sports Club’s skipper Yameen Ibrahim and Ahmed Nizam scored the only goal against Club Valencia to beat them by 2-0 and send them to the top of the table in ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League.

In the 9th minute Rafinha missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. His shot inside the box hits the post and Valencia players cleared the ball for a corner kick.

In the 29th minute Awilo’s shot inside the box was blocked by keeper and Wahid made another shot from the rebounded ball but it went wide.

In the 53rd minute TC missed another good chance to open the scoring when Naiz hits the woodwork from a wonderful shot inside the box.

In the 56th minute Ibrahim Abdulla brought down Azzam inside the box and referee awarded a penalty to TC Sports and he was cautioned for that challenge.

Yameen Ibrahim broke the deadlock in the 57th minute from a penalty.

In the 76th minute Ahmed Nizam doubled the lead from his first touch when he was introduced in the 75th minute of the game from a superb volley inside the six yard box.

With this win TC Sports Club got 24 points from 11 games while second placed New Radiant got 23 points from 10 games. They will play against BG Sports tonight.

If both the TC and New Radiant are winning their respective games up to the final day of the league when they meet on 2nd December, an interesting prospect will open up for both the teams. Whoever wins that match will be the winner of league, something that have not happened for a long time. For a league attracting barely any crowd this would certainly be an interesting change from the usual spectacle when the league is settled long way from its final day. It is also intriguing a relatively new comer, TC, could be crowned the champions and Nizam becomes the first local coach to have done so with a team that had been promoted to first division football just last year.

Yes, certainly, there are some interesting matches to come towards the end, not only for the top 2 but for teams like victory and valencia to see how close they come to being in the Gadha Hathareh!
