Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has postponed the Dhivehi League, which is scheduled to start on March 4th. The delay is caused due to the ongoing renovation work at the National Stadium.

“We have decided to change the starting date of the Dhivehi League due to the renovation work at the National Stadium for the AFC Challenge Cup.” FAM General Secretary Hussain Shahid said.

He also said that they haven’t finalized a date for the league but they will decide it soon.

Football Association of Maldives has earlier decided to postpone the Charity Shield match.

It is yet to be known how the clubs respond to this change as clubs spending on player wages and other operational costs will be affected by the duration of the season. Also the change is unlikely to let AFC Cup representatives, Maziya and New Radiant, to have a proper competitive games ahead of the tournament.
