Male’, MALDIVES – FIFA appointed electoral committee has decided to host the election of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) election on 26th of this month. Speaking at a press conference held at FAM today, the electoral committee’s president Ibrahim Ismail said that they have decided to host the election on 26th and they will host the primary of second division and third division on 25th.

“As you all know we have to host the election before 31st of this month. So we have decided to host the election on 26th and the primaries of second and third division on 25th of this month.”

He also said that they have held meetings with the clubs who will vote in the elections and every one of them want to host election smoothly.

“We have discussions with the clubs and all the clubs wants to host the election smoothly this time. So we hope that we can do what we are assigned.”

“We will pass three documents to the clubs today. These documents include the rules of the election a form which will be used to change the previously assigned member of the club for the election and the other form will be filled if the clubs does not wish to change the previously assigned member.”

He also said that they will verify the names of the representatives of the clubs and if anything goes against the rules they will take necessary actions.

“Clubs had to submit the documents before the 22nd of this month and we will verify those. If a club wants to change the previously assigned member they have to submit the form with the approval signatures of the board members of the club.”

Ibrahim Ismail also said that even though the committee was formulated by FIFA with 5 members, two of them have resigned due to various reasons. The members who resigned include Mohamed Tholal and Mohamed Iqbal.

Tholal resigned after he was appointed as the advisor of the Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports while Mohamed Iqbal resigned after he was appointed as the assistant coach of New Radiant.

The elections was first postponed on 18th July after the elections was brought to a halt over United Victory’s vote. For the second time it was brought to a halt after claims that FIFA and AFC officials met with suspended VB Addu FC board member Shaveedh and FAM executive committee without the knowledge of the elections committee and decided to cancel the voting rights of United Victory.
