Male’, MALDIVES – FIFA appointed election committee’s president Ibrahim Ismail has praised Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s process for the past two troubled elections. Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, Ibrahim Ismail said that they have met with the 1st division clubs last night and are expected to meet the second division and third division teams within this week.

“We are preparing a road map for the elections. We have a mandate given by FIFA for us to hold the elections before 31st January 2012. I believe the processes laid by FAM in the last two elections were good. We had some minor problems and I am sure we would be able to solve them”

“We have met with the 1st division clubs. They also want to speed up the process and finish the elections as soon as possible. We will meet with 2nd and 3rd division clubs within this week”

“We will prepare the road map and send it for approval by FAM executive committee. We would also send a copy to FIFA as they are the people who gave us the mandate for work. We will host the elections with the comments provided to us by FAM executive committee”

The elections was first postponed on 18th July after the elections was brought to a halt over United Victory’s vote. For the second time it was brought to a halt after claims that FIFA and AFC officials met with suspended VB Addu FC board member Shaveedh and FAM executive committee without the knowledge of the elections committee and decided to cancel the voting rights of United Victory.
