Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team has apologized for letting down the supporters as they failed to win last night’s game against Myanmar in the AFC Challenge Cup. Maldives lost to Myanmar by 3-2.

Speaking at a press conference held at FAM House today national team manager Ahmed Mahloof said that the supporters gave their maximum to the team.

“Supporters were with the team and last night they have showed that and they were much better than we expected. We thank all the supporters for their continuous support and we are very sorry for letting them down.”

Mahloof also said that with the result against Myanmar the players won’t lose their hope to qualify for the semifinal of the tournament.

“I would like to call all the supporters not to lose hope and also the players will not lose hope to qualify for the semifinal. Our aim is to win the next two games and advance to the semifinal.”

“I am sure the players will try to correct the mistakes and try to get a good result in the upcoming games.”

Hey, this is just a game, not the end of the world for Maldives, they still have two games, all to play for. A politician cum manger does not need to apologise, sports is always either a win or lose. If it is the manner of defeat they are worried about and fans' disgust, first stop all the political showboating being carried out in the name of football and national team.

With a different starting line-up we can play the next matches with confidence and good teamwork. We, the supporters are with you. Suppoerters if you can, please don't start leaving the stadium until the whistle is gone! What we saw in the last match, esepcially in teh second half is that our team can build up good attacking moves. Can't wait to see the next match..and we'll win convincingly, Insha Allah.

after seen the new style maldive played in recent years with former coach , as a indian i was shocked! that's how every team wants to play, nothing is going to be perfect at the beginning. team needs time and practice but ur team did really well they showed they were born to play like that but lack of finishers effected it IN LAST SAFF cup ! really if ur football association kept former coach i bet maldive will be a team hard to defeat! he was a young coach who could go with the team for a longer period instead of bringing a guy who was sacked by a local club here due to his poor tactics and old style of playing ! i wish istavan could come here to coach east bengal here!! he is and awesome coach !! (this is my opinion)
