Male’, MALDIVES – President of Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, has announced that the government of Maldives will provide a bonus of MVR 1 Million (USD 64,850.00) to the national team if they advanced to the semifinal of AFC Challenge Cup.

President Yameen also said that the ambition of the team should be to lift the trophy of the tournament.

“Our aim should be to lift the trophy and not just to focus match by match. We have to focus on the top and work hard to achieve that. And out aim should be to win the tournament.”

A reward ( call bonus) can be a real good motivator, but to announce such a bonus ahead of a big tournament can more likely have its undesirable effects on players. It increases the burden of performance to unprecedented level, the thought playing on players' mind on a loop. It is also an added, unnecessary pressure which can backfire as they try to meet the twin deadlines of earning a place in the semi and go about wondering about how the reward will get bigger if they reach finals. In this present day and age sports psychologists have tried to address the negative effects of it.

This is becoming a show-off, bringing it live on tv, going as far into their manifeso's provisions, pointing out what this administration had done for sports. Is this a little champaign for ppm to remind the nation what they had missed out in the previous administration. depressing to see National team being made a sacrificial lamb to score off brownie points.
