First out of many trophies says Imma

Male’, MALDIVES – After winning the FA Cup, Maziya’s coach Ismail Mahfooz (Imma) believes that it is the first trophy out of many which Maziya will earn in the future. Maziya won the final match by 2 – 1. Maziya took the lead in the mid of the first half, but Eagles responded quickly and levels the game in three minutes. Ahmed Rasheed's scored a superb header to take Maziya in front in the second half.

“I believe that this is the first trophy out of many which Maziya will win in the future.”

“I don’t believe that Maziya we have the same set of players which played in last season. Goal keeper Imran joined us this season, our defender Ali joined us this season, Messi, Asadhullah, Jhon joined us this season. So I don’t believe that the success we got was not only by retaining the players.”

“Our target was to achieve better success compared to last season. We maintained our position in the league. We played in the finals of FA Cup last season, but we lost it. This year, we have won this tournament. So I believe that this was a successful season”

“Our focus for next season would be to retain the success this year. We would not want to drop back. We want to improve the performance of the players and the team as a whole”

“We had a plan this year as well to include foreign players. We brought 8 players for trial and none of them passed the trials. I was not pleased with their performance. We would try to bring foreign players for next season as well. But we would only bring them if they are better than the local players we have in the team. It would be a waste of money for us if we bring a player whose performance is at the same level as the average local player.

Meanwhile, Eagles coach Saanthi praised his boy’s performance despite the loss.

“I think our players played very well tonight. We dominated the possession. I think the main problem we had as I have been repeating was good strikers upfront. Look at Asadhullah and Ammadey tonight. They utilized the few chances they got in the match.”

“I think without Bakaa we played really well. It was one of the best matches we played in the season”

“It is a huge success for us even to reach the finals. We have to follow the same model by Maziya. They have retained their coach and the players for four to five years. It would be a slow process for new teams to bring success”

I had always dreamt of seeing Maziya in the AFC cup... They have a great team with a coach who doesn't expect for what he can't and has the best relationships with players in the country...... Congratulations....

maruhabaa Imma, team and the board of Maziya. Agree with Saanthi here, its a slow process and a patient one for a new team to be successful. Hope both Eagles and MAziya will do much better in the season 2013
