Male', MALDIVES - Maldives national team captain and PDRM FA's hit man Ali Ashfaq has said that POMIS Cup is a special tournament for him and he is excited for getting the chance to play in this year's tournament.

In an exclusive interview with maldivesoccer.com, Ashfaq said that President of the Maldives Invitational Soccer Cup (POMIS Cup) is a very special tournament for him as it’s his debut tournament.

“POMIS Cup will always be a very special tournament for me. Because I started my career and scored first ever goal in my football career on that tournament.”

Ashfaq expressed how excited he’s to play in the national stadium in a club tournament after a break of one year period.

“I’m really excited that I got the chance to play in the national stadium after a long time, especially in a club tournament.”

“We surely will get to play competitive matches in this tournament just before the super league and it will be a huge advantage for us.” Ashfaq added.

Ashfaq also said that their aim is to win the tournament and it will be a huge boost for the players confidence.

“Our target is to win the tournament and it will probably increase players confidence.”

PDRM FA’s head coach Azman Adnan said that his main target is also to win the POMIS Cup and his key player Ashfaq can do something to help the team to win the tournament.

“I have the desire to win the tournament and our key player Ashfaq can do something to help the team to win the tournament.”

As Ashfaq is set to return to the Maldives with his current club PDRM FA to play in the POMIS Cup, one thing remains certain that, no matter which club he plays for he will still be getting the same support from Maldivian supporters.

PDRM FA will arrive to Maldives on 21 January 2015 for the tournament.

POMIS Cup is scheduled to play from 22-28 January 2015.

A 16 year old with the skills of seasoned footballer running at goal, evading defenders, throwing  off balance those who close down. His mother was watching on from a building under construntion behind the west stand.
