SAFF C’ship re-scheduled

Male’, MALDIVES - Regional biggest football tournament, SAFF Championship had been re-scheduled to 1-11 September. Tournament was re-scheduled due to date clashes with AFC cup quarterfinals, which New Radiant and East Bengal will be competing.

The new date for kick off of the tournament is September 1, 2013. Earlier the tournament was scheduled to kick off on 20th September.

AFC Cup quarterfinals will be played on 17th and 24th September 2013.

Nepal is the host of the SAFF Championship which eight countries will take part.

India was the champions of the latest edition of the tournament. India beat Afghanistan in the final of 2011 SAFF Championship

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Director of National teams, Ali Suzain said that the change was not the best solution for them.

"It was not the best solution for us. Previously we can get more than one month to prepare for the tournament but now we can get nearly 10 days as per the league schedule.”

“So now again we have to discuss with the clubs to change the schedule." Added Suzain.
