Haveeru award nominees announced

Male’, MALDIVES – Haveeru Daily has announced the nominees for their best footballer of the year award 2012. The five shortlisted players are New Radiant’s Ali Ashfaq, Imran Mohamed, Victory’s Mohamed Umair, Shafiu Ahmed and Maziya’s Asadhulla Abdulla.

The nominees for the best Under 21 player are Maziya’s Amdhaan Ali, Samdhooh Mohamed and Victory’s Rilwan Waheed.

Meanwhile New Radiant’s coach Mohamed Shiyaz, Maziya’s coach Ismail Mahefooz and Victory’s coach Ali Suzain are the nominees for the best coach.

Victory striker Mohamed Umair notched an incredible 26 goals last season and won the top scorer award.

He deserves it not just for the maximum number of goals he has scored for his team but the manner in which this transformation has been to his career. Within a short span of three years the most reliable defender to become the top goal-scorer is not an easy feat. Hopefully the people concerned with the choice won’t pussyfoot and give it to Umair!
