Maldives National team in a regional tournament. coach expects maximum from their despite short preparation

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives National Team’s Head Coach Istavan Urbanyi stated that he has his maximum expectations over the National Team amid short preparations and other difficulties. Maldives National Team departed to Delhi, this morning after practicing for less than a week.

In an exclusive interview to Maldivesoccer.com before the departure Urbanyi said that, he guided the players to play an organize football and he hopes that the players will perform what he expects.

“I have the maximum expectations because we tried our best even though we didn’t have enough time to build up a team”.

“We have players here and we can have good matches ahead, which are most important part in football”.

Urbanyi also noted the inclusion of three junior players to the Senior National Squad.

“I think this is the time talk about the new players in the team rather than who are out”.

Three junior players were among the final 20 players who departed today. They are Ahmed Imaz (Aakko) of Club Eagles, goalkeeper Mohamed Imran of Maziya Sports and Recreation and, Moosa Yamin of All Youth Linkage (AYL). All three junior players are in the U22 National Team.

“The top four goal scorers (of Dhivehi League) are in the selection, and the good news is all four of them are young”.

“They have a good future. Ammadey, Assadulla, Umair and Dhagey. I don’t have to tell about those players, everyone knows who they are”.

Maldives will face Nepal in its first game in the prestigious Nehru Cup on Thursday. Urbani emphasized the challenge he faced due to so many reasons including the short preparations.

“I wish we could have a long term preparations. This time, I am going with a team prepared by clubs, definitely fitness wise”.

“Plus it was Ramadan, and we are playing matches every second day. Those are challenges already”.

“To talk about expectations, based on the situation; it’s kind of interesting”

“I’ve tried to motivate them. And I’ve tried to make them feel ready”

It is time we called a spade a spade and accept the ground reality. In SAFF championship we drew with Nepal due to our luck, Nepal was playing nice passing game and we were defending most of the time, attack was minimal. It was pure luck Ashfaq managed run one length of half and score a good goal. Against India we will most definitely lose because the hosts have prepared for it so well and it is prestigious cup for them, even more than SAFF. About the rest of our opponents the less talk the better. Because Cameroon and Syria are so high up in the FIFA ranking that we would need a binocular even to see their shadows. So if couch is having maximum expectation it may be about Baibalaa that is going on in Male’ to celebrate Eid.

Its sad to compare Maldives with Syria and Camroon. We all knows that they are much high ranked teams in FIFA. Better to try with them and fight for a better result that will keep us happy. Thanks to our playes and the coaching team for beating Nepal again and again; means we still maintain our hopes in Maldives football. Without Oppo, 2K and Binda ... Well done.
