Male’, MALDIVES – Victory Sports Club has decided not to play in the upcoming B52 FA Cup quarter final match against New Radiant tomorrow.
In a letter sent to Football Association of Maldives (FAM) today Victory has highlighted that due to the financial situation of the club the board members of the club has decided not to play in the quarter final match.
Speaking to maldivesoccer.com today, Victory Sports Club’s assistant manager Ibrahim Hisaan said that the board members had highlighted some points and they made the decision based on those points.
“The club didn’t get the funds from the Football Association and even from the ministry and they don’t have enough funds to give the salary and all. So, the board members have decided not to participate in FA Cup and they are working hard to fix the salary issues.”
“We are quite confident that we can settle those outstanding payments very soon and could be able to work for the upcoming season.” Hisaan said.
One of a senior players of Victory said to maldivesoccer.com today that none of the players will work with Victory with the current management.
“There is not a single player who will play for the team with the current management. They don’t answer the phones when the players call them.”
“We have not been paid for three months but still we did our best to secure the place in the Dhivehi League next year.” He said.
A reliable source close to Victory has confirmed to maldivesoccer that Victory took a loan of nearly MVR 400k last year and the club has to repay the loan.
According to competition rule, if a team refuses to play they will be fined for a sum of MVR25,000. Victory's refusal to play the game also means New Radiant will advance to the semi final with a 2-0 win.
