Voting rights to 44 clubs

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has today passed the new statues of the association with historical changes today in the extra ordinary congress held at Hotel Jen this morning.

Ten members clubs presented for the extra ordinary congress passed the statutes presented by the governing body of world football, FIFA.

The main change in the new statutes is that the number of members clubs participating in the congress of FAM and the number of member clubs who have the right to vote.

With the new statutes 44 member clubs from different zones, first division, second division and third division can vote to elect the new president of Football Association of Maldives.

And also under the new statutes FAM must form Beach Soccer Association, Futsal Association, Women’s Association, Youth Football Association, Referees Association, Veterans Association and Players Association and all these members can get the voting rights.

The other important change in the statutes is that the number of executive committee members has been increased from seven to nine and the presidential candidate can submit a list of members who are behind him to run for the election. And the president must have the support of five clubs in order to run for the presidential race and three of those clubs must be from the first division.

After the extra ordinary congress, Chairman of normalization committee, Mohamed Shaweed said that this is a historic day for the Maldivian football.

“This is a historic day for the Maldivian football and this is a huge improvement for the football in the Maldives.”

“These are important changes and under the new statutes we are giving lots of saying to the members clubs unlike the past. We will try to form these associations and other respective works regarding the new statutes as soon as possible.” Shaweed added.

Nothing was mentioned about two big clubs who pussyfooted around the issue of normalisation committee and finally did not appear for the important function.
