Male’, MALDIVES - Maldives national team coach Istvan Urbanyi has been released by the Football Association of Maldives on mutual understanding. Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Urbanyi has said that it was the best thing for both parties to terminate it on mutual understanding.
“I will be leaving tonight and it was the best solution for both the parties at this time.”
I am really happy with the times that I have spent here in the Maldives and it helped me a lot to learn things.
“I have been here for four years and this was the longest in my football career including as a player. So my heart says that I will stay here for a very long term. I am part of a Maldivian now and it’s really amazing to be here.”
Istvan Urbanyi, who has introduced the short passing game to the national side, was the head coach when Maldives under 23 national team won the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament, after beating Pakistan by 2 - 1 in the final last December.
Urbanyi also helped the senior national team to reach the final of SAFF Championship in 2009 and into the semi final of 2011 and 2013 edition.
Urbanyi will leave Maldives tonight and maldivesoccer.com wishes him all the best.
