Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives U23 team coach Mohamed Shazly has said that they have selected Ali Ashfaq, Akram Abdul Ghani and Mohamed Imran as the three over age players in the U23 team.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, Shazly said tonight that the tournament organizers informed that this week.

“The tournament organizers informed that this week and we have selected Ashfaq, Akram and Imran.”

“We can use Akram in the defense line as well as in the midfield and without any doubt we should include Ashfaq. He is one of the best players in the region. And our goal keeper was injured and I have decided to include Imran.”

Director of national teams, Ali Suzain said that those players who are in the national team will also join the senior team after the tournament.

“Those players will join with the senior team after the tournament and they will travel to Seychelles separately.”

Maldives will play against Indonesia, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea in the tournament to be held in Indonesia.

We must not getting dependent on Ashfaq always . .i mean we have to give the chance for the upcoming young players moreover we should learn to play and win without him . . Anyways best of luck team . .In Sha Allah you guys can make us proud again !! :D

this is a joke, why include these players. we always talk about lack of experience from young players and we NEVER give them a chance at international level. Our next generation needs to play like a TEAM all 90mins of a game unlike our senior team (who now mostly rely on ashfaq to do the magic) or else we could be the next Sri-lanka in SAFF. because when Ashfaq is gone there is no other to replace him.
