Kathmandu, NEPAL – Maldives national team coach Istvan Urbanyi has said that he has the confidence when playing against India based on how they have played in this tournament.

“Yes, and in 2011 semi final we lost to India with a penalty and that made the difference. So we have a lot motivation to come back and we have a good team, we should have and we could have confidence based on how we played in this tournament.”

Urbanyi also reiterated that many people are saying that this is the weakest Indian team ever participated in the SAFF Championship and he don’t agree with that.

“The other thing is people just started talking about this is the weakest India team ever in this tournament. But I don’t agree on that. This is the Indian national team right now and they have scored late goals. But they played strong and competitive matches.”

“Even the last game against Nepal they have been dominating the whole game and its going to be a tough game and I agree that its big challenge for us”

When maldivesoccer.com asked about the suspension of Suni Chhetri he said that it’s good for the Maldives team.

“Definitely Chhetri is a very good player and he is a very dangerous player. He can create chances from nothing. So, I can say its good for us if he is not playing. But I cannot say that it will be an added advantage.”

“I hope the pitch condition will be good enough to play because when we played against Afghanistan we had some difficulties but it’s not an excuse.”

“Every game is different and this is a semi final and every player has an ambition and target to win the tournament. For that we have to beat India and we have the confidence.”

When asked about the starting line up against India, coach said that he would make changes when compared to Afghanistan.

“Compare to Afghanistan match yes, I will change the starting line up. I will use Ashfaq in this match.”

It is wrong for Dhaganday to say this is the weakest Indian team, that is tactically wrong assumption to have of your opponents. If you want to win a war you don’t underestimate your opponent because that would be tactical suicide. It gives reasons for his fighters to be overconfident. That they don’t need to play with their 110% work-rate. We must not forget India has beaten us the last four times we met them. They may not have played at their best in the group stage but in knock-out matches India has shown their strength over the years. We better keep that in mind rather than taking too much pride in ourselves.
