ANFA President, Ganesh Thapa briefing in the press conference

Kathmandu, NEPAL - ANFA president Ganesh Thapa has said that it’s very unlikely to have SAFF election on this term. Speaking after the high level meeting of SAFF held yesterday at Hotel Annapurna he stated that they are very happy with the performance of the current president, Mr Kazi Salahuddin and they had asked him to continue.

“The eight countries, I must say we are very united, that’s why now in the AFC always they have the thing about SAFF, because we are always united and see today also we have five presidents here. So we have no problem and nothing so it’s not officially, but if you ask me officially there will be no election in our region. And everybody up to now, we are fully satisfied with the leadership so I don’t think there will be any election or something to go in the SAFF region, so we will be continuing. We are asking him to continue.” Said Thapa

SAFF secretary general Alberto Colaco said that before going for elections the statutes of SAFF needs to be amended.

“We had a very high profile meeting with presidents of five member association and the general secretary of AFC. And we had some very good suggestions coming. In which one of the suggestion was that the statutes of SAFF should be amended before the next congress”

“So first, the statutes of the SAFF will be amended and then the date of the congress will be decided. But there will be a timetable for this and we expect to complete it in four to six months”

“I felt that the statutes of SAFF requires lot of changes. So that’s why this suggestion has been made in order to raise the profile of SAFF"
