Male', MALDIVES - Kuwait SC's Romanian coach Marin Ion described the hammering of New Radiant Sport Club 7-2 in the first leg of the AFC Cup is a normal result as Kuwait SC effectively guaranteed a spot in the semi finals.
Defending Champions Kuwait SC raced to a 6-0 lead in the first half, with four goals from Tunisian national team forward Issam Jemma. Tunisian midfielder Hammami scored two goals and Brazilian striker Rogerio, who was the AFC Foreign player of the year in 2012 also got on the score sheet.
Speaking in the post match press conference Ion admitted that the score line was surprising however considering Kuwait SC is the defending champions he described the result as "normal".
"Ofcourse is a big score. But it could have been more. We saw the difference between the two clubs.
Kuwait team is the champions of Asia. Its (the result is) normal," Ion said. "I am very happy with the performance. The players has displayed the image of the club. The qualification for the next stage is solid."
New Radiants director of football Anwar Ali said that Kuwait SC took advantage of lack of concentration of New Radiant players in the first half.
"They took a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. Kuwait took advantage of the lack of concentration of our players in the first half," Anwar said.
Anwar said that New Radiant improved their game in the second half, and displayed that they can give a fight to Kuwait SC.
"Of course technically and physically Kuwait is better than New Radiant. However in the second half we played well and proved we can give them a fight. If we had played like that in the first half the result would have been very different," Anwar said.
