Male’, MALDIVES – A reliable source has confirmed to maldivesoccer.com that Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is considering to appoint a new coach for the national team.

Maldives coach Istvan Urbanyi has failed to take the team for the final of the 8th SAFF Championship held in Kathmandu last week. Maldives lost the semi final match to India by 1-0. But in the group stage Maldives beat Sri Lanka by 10-0 and also won the match against Bhutan by 8-2.

Under the helm of Urbanyi Maldives has failed to qualify for the final of 2011 SAFF Championship and also lost to India in the final of SAFF Championship 2009 on penalties.

A local coach has said to Maldivesoccer.com that the coach must resign with these results and FAM should appoint a new coach soon.

“Coach should resign now based on the results of the last three editions of SAFF Championship. In these three tournaments Maldives failed to beat India.”

“FAM must appoint a new coach soon and should start the preparation for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup which will be held in Maldives next year.”

Good coaches are need for the clubs too, i do not like the idea of ripping off local clubs coaches unless we fail to find a replacement elsewhere.

If this is true, FAM should appoint someone with a proven track record, someone with adequate knowledge of Maldivian football. In the past, they've made the mistake of thinking that any white European guy can magically turn us into an unbeatable side, regardless of whether he has had any experience with football management. Please, if anyone from FAM is reading this comment, I would like to strongly urge you on behalf of all Maldivian football fans to appoint someone not based on his salary demands, but on his coaching assets. And please for the love of God, help the new coach as much as you can. Arrange friendlies beforehand, organise training camps and the 2014 football calendar properly. You can't expect the coach to make us a good team while you sit there in your fancy office arguing politics.

New coach or not, Time to move on...the next big tournament is only a few weeks, the U19 AFC tournament. Have our youngsters started preparing. Question to the incompetent FAM, about another tournament, why is that India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan are taking part in the U16 AFC tournament, but not our Maldivian youngsters? Can u really say that you are preparing our football for the future? With this sort of incompetence and short-sightedness, how can we say we are one of the regional powers? In a few years' time, we won't even be in the top 4, at this rate!

I will support Imma, Addo, Shah, Kuda Moosa, Iqbal, Maatey to be brought into the FAM management. Without a drastic change in FAM, we can't progress in the long run

I don't think FAM can afford a pro-licensed coach. *sigh* and i suggest not to bring a coach who's not better than Urbanyi. If FAM's target is send away Urbanyi, then just don't bring a coach like lopez, we want FAM to have a budget of $50,000 or more for the coach's salary, then we can get a good coach.

I may be wrong, but wasn't there an agreement between FAM and Kuwait FA back in 2011, when the Kuwaitis decided to help us out by paying the coach's salary? We had the chance to appoint an A-license coach, but appointed who? Andreas Cruciani...that Argentine match-fixing fraud. Bad decision after bad decision by the FAM has taken its toll on Maldivian football.

dear FAM; if we need to improve our football players in club or national team; we need to improve our in-said football league like home and way football system but i know its very hard to do, (we can do any thing, if we try) but its long way to go and its not too far if we try friend. And we need sum academy from Europe clubs like (Barcelona, arsenal, chelsea, Manchester) to work here so our youngster players will be high level players, for this we need lost of money but we have our resorts islands or empty islands can help us for our young youth football, plz save our football dream of Maldives. we do not like to go 10 year back.... plz think from mind

DEAR FAM; changing a coach its not a solution for our team bcoz it will repeat again and again, if we need a gud coach? we need a coach with gud record , gud salary and passing stile football. and our big problem is our players all ways coming late to football stadium for training, smoking and coffee no limits, all night spending out-said from home. and our clubs having no gud rules; we have 10 clubs but we have only 4 stadium, our national team need more friendly match with gud national teams not B team or C team, i can say like this many problems of our national team; plz send comments to me. if you like or not, see you soon thanks all
