Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives U19 lost their third match of the AFC U19 Championship qualifying match against UAE by 5-0.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Maldives U19 team manager Ahmed Ayaz said that UAE was much better than Maldives U19 team.

“UAE was much better and I can say that they will be one of the best in this tournament.”

He also said that the players were tired due to the hefty schedule of the tournament.

“The players were really tired as they had to play three games within six days. It showed even when we started the game.”

Ayaz also reiterated that still they have a chance to qualify for the final tournament.

“We are hoping to qualify for the final round and we need a win against Yemen. But I have to say that Yemen is also a good team and they have scored 3 goals against Afghanistan.”

UAE U20s played in the U20 FIFA World Cup and did well. Still, I think this is one area we need to improve most; physical fitness. In tournaments teams have to play matches every 2 or 3 days, so this is something the boys need to adjust to as they develop physically.

An average result, but there is still a good chance against Yemen. Playing against them will be tough as both the teams fight it out to get qualified. A good tactical approach and choosing the counter attacks at the right moments of the game will be vital. Wishing the team all the best! Do any readers know how many teams qualify from each group?

Actually it's a bit more complicated than that. Group winners and 6 best runners-up. Points against the bottom 2 teams will not count, as some groups consist of only 3 teams.
