Maldives in Group B

Maldives national football team, Maldives will play against Bhutan in the first game of the tournament on 2nd September.

Male', MALDIVES - Maldives placed in the group B of upcoming SAFF Championship in Nepal alongside Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

In the group A defending champions India, tournament host Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan will battle and consider the group as the group of Death.

The tournament will start on 1st September with Maldives' first game to be played on 2nd September against Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan is likely to give the strongest competition to Maldives in the group to finish on top of the table.

Maldives last game against Afghanistan came in 2009 with a 3-1 win while Maldives beat Sri Lanka in the semi final of the same edition by 5-1.

Alhamdhlillah. I think its a blessing for our team. We may have the luxury to give more rest to top players and give time for the youngsters to show their skills. And this may also be a good news for new radiant.

Some people have already put maldives through to semis . Sri lanka has the best squad in recent years n they bhutan are no push overs . Afganistan have 8 players playing in eastern europa league . Fingers are crossed players need to train hard . Weather could play a vital role hope for thebest .

Oppo’s absence will be a big loss but Ali Umar deserves a recall. He has been outstanding with his consistent performance for New Radiant. Sad that the tournament is going to be overshadowed by a presidential election. Nevertheless, football must go on and hope Maldives will do better this time around.

Is oppo dropped from the squad ? Heard he refused to play with baka n that wad the reason he pulled himself out of the pakistan friendly . Can some clarify this please . Oppo has been our top performer and along with bakaa physical peresence and likesof umair we do boast one of the best midfeilders in the saff . What ever their problem may be nation comes first .
