Urbanyi’s absence not an issue

Maldives national team coach Istvan Urbanyi, said that he knew the players very well and there won't be any problem in the selection.

Male', MALDIVES - Maldives National Football team coach, Istavan Urbanyi has said that his squad is almost final for the upcoming SAFF championship.

“I would say, I already have my list and it’s 90% ready. But I will wait till these qualification matches to see the current situation”

Urbanyi said that his absence during the local league matches would not affect the selection of National team.

“No, I don’t think so. I know Maldivian football probably better than anyone. I have updated the information from the coaches and also my colleagues watched the games and I would be the happiest one if someone can tell me; coach you missed something”

Director of National teams, Suzain said that although the coach wasn’t here during the local league matches, DVD’s of all the matches are available so that coach can review the player’s performance and identify other things.

“Some Medias are criticizing that due to the absence of coach there were difficulties to select the national squad. I think when there is a squad of 30 or 25 players; there is no such a good development system suddenly 12 players can come out to join the national team.”

“DVD of all the matches is ready in here. It would be easier to identify things by watching the video by repeating or replaying. So I believe that there should not be any problem to select the squad due to absence of the coach”

Why don’t you stay in your country and send the training program to assist coach, and then Suzain will send the practice video’s..

Urbanyi's absence wouldn't be a problem since it's not entirely up to him to decide makes the team. Certain people in FAM decides that.

How long has Urbanyi been away? It is the job of national team coaches to attend local matches and analyze player performance. We see people like Vicente del Bosque of Spain attending matches week in, week out. He does not just leave all the work for the assistant coach and appear out of thin air for tournaments.

I don't expect anything else to happen with the bunch now running the FAM. Their most vocal activist, Satho is now a regular on TV shows, attacking them. Not a single "right decision" on a "right time" so far. We have a stooge as GS, the entire asylum has been hijacked by the Director of National Teams (whose mandate surprisingly seems to include the running of the FAM!), the Atolls Director (another Abd hameed in the making?) who has suddenly gone low profile since the elections, the advisor who has just been elected as Chairman of the Olympic Committee and the International relations chap, whose main job is to attend FIFA meetings. What a load of hog!

I agree with you completely. What a sad state of affairs this is. We should all stage a coup against the FAM and kick the mercenaries out, I fear it's the only way.
