Male', MALDIVES - Executive Committee of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has today decided that Nepal would host the next edition of SAFF Championship. The decision was made in the SAFF Executive Committee meeting held at Sri Lanka this morning.
As the decision was made by the Executive Committee of SAFF, Nepal is now gearing up to host the prestigious tournament after 15 years since they last hosted the tournament. Nepal hosted first SAFF Championship back in 1997 which India won defeating Maldives in the final.
President of All Nepal Football Federation (ANFA) Ganesh Thapa has already stated that they will try their best to make the next edition of SAFF Championship a memorable tournament.
"We are very happy to win the bid. We will not leave any stone unturned to make SAFF 2013 a memorable tournament for all”.
According to Nepalese media reports, ANFA has proposed two dates for the completion; September or December 2013. But the dates are yet to be finalized.
The last edition of SAFF Men’s Championship was held at New Delhi, India where India lifted the trophy by beating Afghanistan.
Eight South Asian countries will take part in the prestigious event of SAARC region.
