Kathmandu, NEPAL – Final minute goal from Sunil Chettri rescues India from a defeat against Bangladesh in the fifth game of the SAFF Championship 2013. Rahman Meshu handed the lead for Bangladesh in the second half of the game but Sunil Chettri’s sharp free kick leveled the game in the final minute of the added time.
Indian players dominated the first forty five minutes, but was not able to create a good scoring chance.
Eight minutes remaining in the clock Bangladesh took the lead. Meshu’s shot from a loose corner kick dropped in to the box deflected in to the goal after a hitting Indian defender.
Sunil Chettri scored the equalizer from a free kick just from edge of the penalty area and ended the match with a 1 – 1 draw.
With this result India top the Group-A with 4 points from 2 games, while Nepal follows them with 3 points. Bangladesh is on third place with one point from 2 games while Pakistan sits on bottom after loosing their first game to India.
India played their first game of the tournament against Pakistan on Sunday where India edge past with 1 goal over Pakistan. In the opening game of the competition Bangladesh missed their game to host Nepal 2 – 0.
In the next game of the competition Nepal will play against Pakistan today at 17:45 (Maldives local time).
