Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant coach Velizar Popov has been released by the club on mutual understanding and is all set to take over as the head coach of an Oman team.
In a press conference held at FAM House tonight, New Radiant chairman Balak said the club is sad to part company with the coach but the offer is so good and the club don't want to be a barrier to Popov and his success. Balak also thanked the coach for what he did to New Radiant.
Speaking at the press conference coach Popov said family is the main reason of him joining another club, as he is happy with New Radiant and considers Maldives like a home.He also revealed that he received offers from an Indonesian and Hong Kong club during the season.
"I must think about my family. During the season I had offers from Indonesia and Hong Kong as well. Before the final of FA Cup, I got the offer from Oman club but I stayed and after the final they called me again and wanted me to go there. It is very difficult to go because I am very happy here. I will miss my friends, management and the supporters. This is like home to me" Popov said.
Popov, who leaves with a remarkable record of winning all his domestic games and taking New Radiant to the quarter finals of AFC Cup, said the results are because of the hard work of the players.
"Without these good players I am nothing. I am not the one who must receive all credits, I must thank the players and local coaches here" Popov said.
Popov also expressed his desire to comeback one day.
"Friendship is more important than results and trophies. I hope to come back one day. Thank you all"
Popov will leave tomorrow morning and New Radiant will have a club board meeting tomorrow to decide who will take charge of the club in the upcoming President's cup games.
