Director of national teams, Ali Suzain has stated that they are looking for a foreign coach.

Male’, MALDIVES – Director of National Teama of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Ali Suzain confirmed that they are looking for a foreign coach for the national team.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com Suzain said that they got some curriculum vitae’s of experienced coaches and they will send those to the technical committee to evaluate.

“We got some CV’s and we will send those to technical committee to evaluate it and they will send it back to the executive committee to finalize a coach.”

“We hope that we can finalize it within this week” Suzain added.

FAM started to find a foreign coach after releasing Hungarian born Istvan Urbanyi from the post on mutual understanding last week.

Istvan Urbanyi, who introduced the short passing game to the national side, was the head coach when Maldives under 23 national team won the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament, after beating Pakistan by 2 - 1 in the final last December.

Urbanyi also helped the senior national team to reach the final of SAFF Championship in 2009 and into the semi final of 2011 and 2013 edition.

FAM has previously announced that they are going to play two friendly matches against Seychelles in November.

Just Bringing a foreign coach for the national team doesn't solve the problem. AFC Challenge Cup 2014 results will be the answer of how effective the decisions of F.A.M are to Maldivian Football.

A foreign coach would need time to settle in Maldives and more importantly, time to study Maldivian football. They are not magicians, even the best coaches need time to evaluate footballing cultures they are not familiar with. To do this, FAM should give him all the help he needs. Arrange friendlies, allow him to watch Dhivehi League matches and give him space to assess players on his own, instead of picking the national team squad for him. We need a strong, assertive coach who is not afraid to make tough decisions, not an FAM 'Yes Man' who wants to spend a few months loitering on a beach. The AFC Challenge Cup is only 6 months away and we will probably never have a better opportunity to qualify for the Asian Cup than this.

FAM since Suzain came on board is playing politics, that for sure. When national team crashed out of SAFF championship 2013 there was a mad rush to soften the fallout from the premature elimination. There were talks of friendless arranged for the national team, two in November. Now there are no more talks of it. May be they were talking about all these friendlies after all to calm the angry fans. Now they keep saying they are searching for a coach and have CVs of six candidates. No one knows when somebody will be finalised. They keep saying in weeks’ time, we are not sure. Who knows what FAM and their wonderboy Suzain is upto? The last we heard he was groping in the darkness of FAM house for an FA cup on the eve of the final!!
