Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant striker and Maldives national team captain Ali Ashfaq (Dhagey) has said that he is reviewing some very good offers from clubs from Malaysia, India as well as Brunei and added it is very unlikely that he will be playing in Maldives domestic league next year.

“My main target is to play in a foreign league next year. I have received very good offers from India, Malaysia, Brunei and some other countries as well.” Dhagey told maldivesoccer.com.

“I will decide on those offers before the end of November.”

Maldivesoccer.com can confirm that India league champions Churcill Brothers are also keen and to sign Ashfaq.

Ashfaq had some good offers from abroad in the past including the offers from Hong Kong’s South China and also he refused a chance to have a trial with Portuguese club Benfica when he was a teenager but so far he only played for DPMM FC of Brunei along with Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo).

If Ashfaq goes to Churchill brothers he would play alongside Sunil Chhetri up front. The team will then have South Asia's deadliest two strikers. Personally, I hope he goes outside South Asia so that he gets a taste of a different brand of football.

he won't go...he keep saying this once in a while for whatever reason and at the last moment he will change his mind. few years back he said he is going to a Malaysian club and he did go but when they getting reading to do his medicals he came back god knows for whatever reasons. sad but this is true.

I thought the same at first, but dont think Sunil Chetri plays in Churchill brothers any more. Any ways, I hear that offers have been made to several players. If this is the case I urge them to go and be the gateway for future footballing generations too. We have lots of talented footballers in Maldives but most of them have not seen much of a future in football and has up until now taken the sport as a second or part time job. With this door opening, foreign scouts will definitely look into Maldives for potential players and I feel we could nurture lots of quality players with players taking it more seriously. I request all our past national and club coaches with links to foreign clubs to try and provide opportunities to our players. I am trying not to get too over excited, but this has been a day I have been waiting for and I pray that many more such opportunities come our way. For the players who are going abroad, I must say that you will be representing our nation and please market it well in all aspects. Wishing all the best and praying for better days in Maldivian football.
