Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has agreed on the proposal from the national team coach regarding his outstanding payments.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, FAM president Ilham Ahmed has said that they are happy with the proposal by coach and even they don’t want to drag the issue.

“We are happy with that and we have informed it to the coach tonight unofficially but we will settle it tomorrow.”

“We don’t want to drag this and we don’t want these kinds of things to happen.”

Maldives national team coach Istvan Urbanyi has said to maldivesoccer.com tonight that he was informed about it unofficially tonight that they will settle it.

“I was informed tonight that they will settle it as I proposed them. But it was not official.”

Ilham also noted the financial situation of the Association and said that they are facing multiple issues with the outstanding payments of the previous administration.

“We were elected in January and we didn’t get anything on credit basis. We have to pay for everything that we require due to the previous administrations financial outstandings."

Istvan Urbanyi, who has introduced the short passing game to the national side, was the head coach when Maldives under 23 national team won the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament, after beating Pakistan by 2 - 1 in the final last December.

Urbanyi also helped the senior national team to reach the final of SAFF Championship in 2009 and into the semi final of 2011 and 2013 edition.

It is believed that Istvan Urbanyi will leave Maldives tomorrow night.

One thing I have noticed is that, those of us who regularly follow Maldivian football are largely in favour of keeping Urbanyi as the head coach of the national team, while those who only watch the national team when they are playing in the SAFF Championship want him out with just one bad result. Maldives National Football Team's Facebook page is proof of this. When we finished top of the group after resounding wins against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, the "supporters" were gushing Urbanyi with praise. Then came the defeat against India, and the "coach isthiufa" and "Resign now!" comments appeared. What was funny was that all these comments were written by the same people (including a female cousin of mine, who does not watch football, let alone know its rules properly, but is a "huge fan" of the national team). Now these "supporters" will be pleased to see like-minded people running FAM. I'm not saying Urbanyi is perfect, but I firmly believe that if we treat our foreign coaches better and if FAM gave them more time and support in improving the national team, we will improve. The fact of the matter is that Urbanyi was willing to stay for many years, like Jankech who served Maldivian football for several years before learning about it inside-out and winning the SAFF Championship. Imagine what we could have done if Gomes had stayed on, we might be competing in the World Cup qualifying group stages now. Instead, we treat our coaches like Supari packets: use them and throw them away. They have to literally beg FAM to arrange friendly matches and training camps, until they get tired of all that and decide to pack up and leave.

Urabanyi is a tried, tested and a failed formula. So the sooner we get rid of him the better. The truth is he is a good trainer but not a good coach who can handle tournament pressure. yes u r right foreign coaches should be treated with respect and shud be given enough time. Urbanyi has been given enough time and its time to move on.

Ilham u came in boasting to do this and that for the betterment of Maldivian football bu t we have not seen anything been done. Please dont point your figure at the previous FA administration without you having the facts to prove what you are accusing of by the previous FA administration. Where is the bloody audit report which shud have been completed and shared with the public by your administration, I guess there is not enough facts in the report to point a figure at the previous administration rather you keep blaming them . ILHAM Be PROFESSIONAL and learn to think and act PROFESSIONALLY.
