Male’, MALDIVES – Maldivesoccer.com can confirm that Maldives national team coach Istvan Urbanyi has decided to depart Maldives on Thursday.

A reliable has confirmed to maldivesoccer.com that the coach has taken his ticket to Hungary and will leave on Thursday.

FAM’s Vice president Abdul Muhusin (J4) has said to Maldivesoccer.com previously that they have to pay five months salary to coach.

“We have to pay five months salary to him. In 2011 FAM didn’t pay two months’ salary and in 2012 they didn’t pay three months salary. So we have to pay that.”

“We were elected in January and till now we have paid 10 months’ salary to coach so all these unpaid salaries were not in our administration.”

FAM’s deputy general secretary said that coach has proposed an agreement to pay his unpaid salaries.

“Coach has proposed an agreement to pay his unpaid salaries and we are working on that.”

Istvan Urbanyi has failed to take the team for the final of the 8th SAFF Championship held in Kathmandu last September. Maldives lost the semi final match to India by 1-0. But in the group stage Maldives beat Sri Lanka by 10-0 and also won the match against Bhutan by 8-2.

Under the helm of Urbanyi Maldives has failed to reach the final of 2011 SAFF Championship and also lost to India in the final of SAFF Championship 2009 on penalties.

He did his best. I think F.A.M has to take responsibility of the national team. F.A.M has to provide the necessary resources and need to arrange more international friendlies to make the national team better. 5 months of unpaid salary to the head couch of the national football team that's embarrassing to the Maldivian football. All the best to Istvan Urbanyi.

Can't these clowns at FAM not do anything without blaming someone else? They have to pay 5 months salary because they are sacking Urbanyi while there's still 5 months left in his contract.

If this is the level of respect FAM gives to the national football coach of Maldives, it is terrifying to think of many other things under their guardianship. Wonder what Ilham to say about this?? If a club fail to pay their coach in time it understandable. But FAM?? chi chi …Ilham must resign immediately. He hasn’t done anything right since he became the president. His list of failures throughout this season will fill one whole page. This latest one as all remember is the SHOCKING announcement by Suzain that FA cup has gone missing. The funny thing is they only came to know the cup is not with FAM 24 before the final of FA cup. What a pathetic bunch of administrators make such an error?? They have been in office for nine months and did know anything is missing. Were they sleeping during the handover process. Suzain, are u there?? Knock! Knock! Please for the sake of Maldives football leave the place for an competent person.

My sincere thanks to Urbanyi for everything you have done to Maldives football. I wish you the very best in your career and hope you keep coming to our small but great country. As for the FAM, any FAM management when they take office, have to bear the responsibility to settle any issues carried forward from the previous management. Any finger pointing to the previous administration is a sign of weakness. I think it's an act of kindness that Urbanyi continued to work for our country. I have to say FAM is probably the most mismanaged organisation in the country, if not in this whole footballing world! It's almost a crime to let these inept people continue to be in their posts, when so many parties are owed money and just sit and watch the support for our national sport dwindle away. Just incredible.

Damn it! Most probably Maldives is the only football nation, which is bringing foreigners to strengthen the teams and to expect wonders from them. So far so good, but how can you expect someone to have a mentality, to bring your team ( doesn't matter if in Club or Nationalteam level ) further, if you do not provide him the agreed terms. I can count you on the spot 10 foreign players/ coaches with heavy salary issues and now also the same with Urbanyi! Shame on this!

We should take preventive measures against this, maybe form a committee to oversee whether clubs and national team staffs are being paid relevantly. If these problems persist clubs debts are going to increase and foreign players and coaches are going to stop coming to Maldives.
