Kuwait City - Issam Jemaa bagged a first-half hat-trick on Tuesday as Kuwait Sports Club swept aside the Maldives club 5-0 to seal their passage to the AFC Cup semi-finals for the fourth time in five years.
The defending champions had the tie well in hand after winning 7-2 in the first leg in Male but they continued to turn the screw at the Kuwait SC Stadium as Jemaa struck thrice towards the end of the first half after Abdullah Al Buraiki had put the home side ahead.
Kuwait SC played much of the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Yaqoub Al Taher but substitute Ali Al Kandari sealed an emphatic 12-2 aggregate victory with a 70th minute header.
The Kuwaiti side, who are seeking a record third AFC Cup title, will now face India’s East Bengal in the semi-finals with the first leg in Kuwait City next week.
They took the lead after 22 minute when Abdullah Al Buraiki found himself in time and space as the New Radiant players backed off and launched a powerful shot from 30 metres that flew past goalkeeper Mohamed Imran.
Jemaa had netted four of his side’s goals in the first-leg win and he got on the score sheet again on the half-hour when he broke down the left on a quick counter-attack and fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner of the New Radiant net.
The hosts were then awarded a penalty in the 39th minute after Khaled Al Azemi was fouled in the box and Jemaa fired the ball down the middle as Imran went to his left.
And the Tunisian completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, heading home a cross by Jarrah Al Ateeqi.
The only black spot for the Kuwaiti side during the game came five minutes into the second half when Al Taher got his marching orders when he was adjudged to be the final defender as he brought down Ali Ashfaq, who was bearing down on the Kuwait SC goal.
