Kuwait SC 5-0 New Radiant: Issam scores a hat-trick

Issam playing against New Radiant in the first leg, he scored a hat-trick in the second leg last night.

Kuwait City - Issam Jemaa bagged a first-half hat-trick on Tuesday as Kuwait Sports Club swept aside the Maldives club 5-0 to seal their passage to the AFC Cup semi-finals for the fourth time in five years.

The defending champions had the tie well in hand after winning 7-2 in the first leg in Male but they continued to turn the screw at the Kuwait SC Stadium as Jemaa struck thrice towards the end of the first half after Abdullah Al Buraiki had put the home side ahead.

Kuwait SC played much of the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Yaqoub Al Taher but substitute Ali Al Kandari sealed an emphatic 12-2 aggregate victory with a 70th minute header.

The Kuwaiti side, who are seeking a record third AFC Cup title, will now face India’s East Bengal in the semi-finals with the first leg in Kuwait City next week.

They took the lead after 22 minute when Abdullah Al Buraiki found himself in time and space as the New Radiant players backed off and launched a powerful shot from 30 metres that flew past goalkeeper Mohamed Imran.

Jemaa had netted four of his side’s goals in the first-leg win and he got on the score sheet again on the half-hour when he broke down the left on a quick counter-attack and fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner of the New Radiant net.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty in the 39th minute after Khaled Al Azemi was fouled in the box and Jemaa fired the ball down the middle as Imran went to his left.

And the Tunisian completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, heading home a cross by Jarrah Al Ateeqi.

The only black spot for the Kuwaiti side during the game came five minutes into the second half when Al Taher got his marching orders when he was adjudged to be the final defender as he brought down Ali Ashfaq, who was bearing down on the Kuwait SC goal.

I don't believe NR were able to improve their game from the first leg. They were able to play a bit of an attacking game in the second half against 10 men.

I have no complain about the score but i am very disappointed with the performance. Players are committing too many fouls. Remember the SAFF Championship game against India?? We all complained that they are not playing football, coz they make too many fouls. And look today, we were playing the same??? Our players are "all set" to defeat thakandhoo and maarandhoo. Their training, tactical discipline, physical fitness and all are at a level of beating minnows like them. So when a big match like this comes we fail terribly. Honestly if we are to dream big, we need to train big first. And look what i heard just now. Mr. Suzain saying that we will not be playing the friendly with Iran, coz the date they proposed ( though its a FIFA day) falls within the sporting calendar. Chah chah shame on us, yes all of us.... How we are supposed to improve with this mentality??????

Accepting that friendly against Iran could have opened a lot of doors for us. Other Middle-Eastern teams would have been looking and possibly offering to play friendlies. Suzain and the rest of the FAM management team are too short-sighted to recognise such benefits. They could've postponed the FA Cup matches by a week, it would not have made a difference. Fans of other Challenge Cup teams are very surprised at FAM's decision, because they have already started preparations for next year's tournament and were expecting us, being hosts, to show a lot more initiative than we are now. What a shame! I bet the clubs who voted for Ilham are really regretting it now, especially since the prize money hasn't been paid. How can we, as fans change these things? Go near the FAM house and protest? Write a letter to FIFA?

Now we surely understand the difference of the level of football we are in.. Lack if faciities and football schooling..which is the only way that total football discipline can be implemented to youth..issues such as healthy eating and creating a professional target in mind..ten or fifteen more years and we would find football will fade ..the only reason it survives now is because of natural gifted players..when the era of ashfaq fade..football here will have no heroes..

I watched the match and thought New Radiant played some good stuff when they had the ball, very positive with players making runs into spaces and creating some good chances. Once again though, like many Maldivian teams in the past, their off-the-ball discipline let them down again. Players just didn't know when to close down, when to block Kuwait SC players runs, how to make the offside trap, block crosses or cover the defense. We need to teach our youngsters these skills or nothing is going to change for the next 10 years.

Don't blame only local players, look at forign players too.I think the players like kingsley and mansa don't have enough skills and they are not high level players, just remember how boykov played in new radiant, he was high class player, he was a leader, he was the man who brought the team to semi final. This kind of forign players we need.

You are absolutely correct. But we have to remember that "class" has a price too. And Maldivian teams are very weak financially and our Dhivehi League is a joke. So nobody comes here if he is looking for money or looking to improve/develop his skills and get noticed by bigger clubs. ::: But yes, sometime you will find gold in trash as well, so we might get a player like boikov once in a blue moon, but not every season.
