Saanthi and Athif appointed for youth national teams

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has appointed former national team’s assistant coach Ihsaan Abdul Ghani as the head coach of Under 14 and Under 19 national team. FAM also appointed Athif as the head coach of Under 16 national team.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, FAM’s technical director, Mauroof said that the coaches are selected for a year and based on the performance reviews, they would be extended further.

“They are selected for a period of one year. We would be renewing it after a period of year based on their performance reviews”

Mauroof also noted that they would be appointing the assistant coaches for the national teams after discussions with the coaches.

“We would be giving priorities for A licensed coaches who have been working with FAM before”

In addition Mauroof also noted that Ismail Mahfooz and Mufeed will be leading the Under 11 elite teams in developing their football skills.

Maldives are grouped with Nepal, Bhutan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the AFC Under 14 Championship 2014 qualifiers. The tournament will be held in Nepal.

AFC Under 16 Championship qualifiers will be held later this year.
